Good to know before you travel to Kenya
- Visas were replaced by the eTA; all visitors need an eTA except EAC citizens and listed exempt nationalities (most African countries, 60-180 days)
- eTA fee 30 USD, single entry, must be used within 90 days of issue; apply only on etakenya.go.ke, third-party applications are denied
- Visitors need Kenyan travel health insurance from a Kenyan-licensed insurer, bought online before travel (since early October 2026). Foreign travel insurance is not accepted.
- German ID cards are not accepted; passport valid at least 6 months beyond the stay
- An eTA does not guarantee entry; the border officer decides
- East Africa Tourist Visa (Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, multiple entry) costs 100 USD as an alternative
