Good to know before you travel to UK
- Since 25 February 2026 non-visa nationals (including all EU citizens) must hold an ETA; airlines refuse boarding without valid permission
- ETA costs GBP 20 (since 8 April 2026), is valid 2 years or until the passport expires, and allows stays of up to 6 months per visit
- Visa nationals need a Standard Visitor visa (GBP 135 for 6 months) applied online with an appointment at a visa application centre
- Passengers transiting through UK border control also need an ETA or visa; transit at Heathrow or Manchester without passport control currently does not need an ETA
- British and Irish citizens and people with UK permission to live, work or study do not need an ETA
